Hand Forged Ironwork

Hand forged ironwork is used in conjunction with traditional building methods.

Pieces are made from pure iron and wrought iron giving them strength, ductility and corrosion resistance and are supplied with a linseed oil coating in preparation for linseed oil primer and top coat. Mild steel can also be used but the pieces would need to be hot dip galvanized.

The Holdfast:

Traditional method used to clamp and secure framework such as door frames and window frames to stonework. The long gradual taper allows the holdfast to be driven in and wedge between stonework and masonry giving a secure fixing.

The Gutter Bracket:

Same principle of securing to masonry as holdfast, the curved bracket is made to accommodate various gutter sizes, and was either fire welded or riveted to the tapered spike depending on application and contour of wall, gutter brackets can be either straight as shown or offset to accommodate stonework.

The Downpipe Bracket:

Again the same principle of securing as the holdfast, the corner is forged to allow hammering into stonework and a tapered curve which clamps the down pipe to the wall.

Hinge and Pintle:

Simple traditional style used on inside or outside. The pintle is hammered into the stonework or masonry and the hinge drops down over it. Many designs and applications of this simple combination are available.
